Stephen Kamphuis
Resident BJJ Black Belt Instructor, trained under and received his Black belt from Anthony Lange and John Will, (Will-Machado Australia 2004) and Master Fabricio Martins of Equipe Fabricio of Brazil thus giving him the rare distinction of being one of only a few non Brazilians to earn a black belt in Brazil.
Received his first degree black belt in 2007 from Master Fabricio while competing in Brazil.
Before coming to the Philippines he was one of only two BJJ Instructors in Australia with Black Belts in both BJJ and Judo.
Stephen first started training Judo at the age of 14 while growing up in New Zealand under Ivan Willis (Olympic Judo Referee) receiving his Black belt in Judo just as he turned 20.
Stephen continued training on a semi regular basis in Judo and Boxing while living in Australia. His continued interest in Martial Arts lead to the discovery of BJJ quite by accident. He found a real passion for the technical, mental and physical skill that comes in training.
His BJJ instructor in Australia was Anthony Lange, of Lange - Machado and it was at this school where Stephen received high level instruction from Anthony, but had many great training partners including UFC fighters Anthony Perosh and Elvis Sinosic who now own and operate SPMA in Australia.
While training with Anthony Lange, Stephen had the opportunity to meet and train under Brazilian Brown Belt ,Raphael Costello of Equipe - Fabricio Brazil for over 4 years . Raphael's school had a close relationship and friendship with Lange - Machado students.
This relationship and a planned trip to Brazil made by Anthony Lange and Stephen in 2003 to train with Fabricio lead to Kamphuis - Fabricio Philippines. This became the start of a great friendship and student teacher respect for Fabricio Costa Martins the head Instructor of Equipe Fabricio who Stephen is proud to have the opportunity to represent.
